Leeds Rugby Foundation welcomed 40 budding Rugby players from Colfe’s School in London to Kirkstall for a ‘day to remember’ session that culminated in the youngsters attended their first ever Rugby League match as Rhinos defeated the Catalan Dragons.
The 14 and 15 year old pupils spent a day with the Leeds Rhinos Community team and participated in a number of activities that included a Rugby League skills session and an inspirational question and answer session with club legend Keith Senior, promoting the message of teamwork, sacrifice and commitment.
A Headingley Carnegie Stadium tour then followed before the youngsters were then treated to their first ever Rugby League game which saw Leeds Rhinos defeat the Catalan Dragons.
Leeds Rhinos School Ambassador Manager Russell Parker commented: “It is fantastic that we can promote the game and the Rhinos brand to schools and people from all over the country.
“Their experience with us clearly paid off because Colfe’s School Rugby teams rounded off their trip by successfully winning their tour game. The lads were a credit to their school.”
Colfes Head of PE, Andrew Foster said: “The boys got a win today and they talked a lot about what they had learnt from the Leeds Rhinos coaches.
“We would be very keen to work with Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Rugby Foundation again who helped to create a special experience for us all.”
Colfe’s, a predominantly Rugby Union school, seem to now have the ‘Rugby League bug’ and have intentions to enter a number of Rugby League tournaments in London.
