Leeds Rhinos Foundation Case Study – Terry’s Rugby League Journey

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Rugby League Development Plan sponsored by Mears was set up in 2013 to provide every youngster in the city the opportunity to play and watch Rugby League. Through this mission, the Leeds Rhinos Official charity signpost children in primary and secondary schools across the city to local community clubs to help them start their Rugby League journey.

Through coaching in his local school, the Leeds Rhinos Foundation signposted 7 year old Terry Clarke to his local community club Stanningley ARLFC to attend a taster session for the clubs new under 7s age group.

Through this initial introduction to school rugby and with the help of his coaches at Stanningley, Terry has gone from having no background in Rugby League, to being a confident and improving Rugby League player and now plays regularly with his friends at the club.

Terry also benefits from some of the events in the city and surrounding areas organised by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, such as Rhinos Challenge, the Dick Gibson Ambassador Festival of Rugby League and playing at Headingley Carnegie Stadium with his club on match days as a half time team.
