Leeds Rhinos Foundation tackling teenage pregnancy with Asda Foundation funded project

TryZone Centre based at Headingley Carnegie Stadium

Leeds Rhinos Foundation in partnership with Leeds City Council Teenage Pregnancy and Parenthood team will be starting a new Asda Foundation funded project to improve young men’s understanding of issues around sex and relationship education starting this month at the TryZone education centre.

The Asda Foundation is a charitable corporate Foundation making independent grants throughout the UK, with the aim of transforming communities and improving lives for people and communities in the UK both now and in the future. It funds charitable projects and activities that have the ideas and ability to achieve change for the better.

Asda recently supported the work of the Leeds Rhinos official charity with a donation of £127,800 to fund a series of personal development programmes and educational projects to be run by Leeds Rhinos Foundation staff in their TryZone education centre over the next three years.

Through a series of classroom and Rugby based activities the ‘Tackled’ project, which will run initially for 7 weeks, will cover sessions including puberty, body image, masculinity, emotional well-being, pornography, contraception and STI’s.

The programme has been designed to support young men to understand their vulnerabilities and to explore what they can do to support change.

The Tackled Project, which will start with a block of sessions for pupils at designated schools in Leeds, will also look to develop outcomes such as promoting self-esteem, physical and emotional well-being with a focus on learning new teamwork, communication and problem solving skills.
