Yorkshire Cricket legend Ryan Sidebottom encouraging walkers to join him for the Leeds 10k this July

Sinfield will be joining runners for this year's Asda Foundation Leeds 10k

Leeds Rhinos Foundation is giving fans interested in taking part in the Asda Foundation Leeds 10k on the 8th July the chance to be part of a walking team led by Yorkshire Cricket legend Ryan Sidebottom

Sidebottom, who is a Vice President of Leeds Rhinos Foundation, will join Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow in the charity’s Run with the Rhinos team and he is encouraging more people to get involved.

The former Yorkshire and England fast bowler said he is looking forward to the day on the 8th July: “I’m really looking forward to the day, the Leeds 10k is a special race for Leeds following the legacy of Jane Tomlinson and to be able to represent the Leeds Rhinos Foundation on the day is going to be a really enjoyable.”

Following a 20-year career in county cricket, Sidebottom will be taking on the Leeds 10k for the first time and walking the distance to encourage people of all abilities to take part.

“I’ve never done the Leeds 10k but now I’ve retired from cricket it’s the first real opportunity to do a running event for charity so what better way to start than with a race for Leeds Rhinos Foundation,” he added.

“I’ve opted to walk the race this year to encourage others to join in who are more comfortable with the idea of walking a 10k instead of running, so I’ll be hoping to finish it comfortably and just enjoy the event with the walking team. It’s all about taking part, raising money and doing your own race plan, so I encourage anyone who wants to walk the race to join me on the day.”

Over 7000 people are set to take to the streets of Leeds for the Leeds 10k and Sidebottom is hoping to see a good representation for Run with the Rhinos team on the day to raise money for Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

The five-time County Championship winner said:  “Just sign up and go at your own pace, bring friends and raise lots of money for Leeds Rhinos Foundation because all money raised is going to a great cause.”

Everyone who joins the Run with the Rhinos team before 31st May will also be invited to an exclusive training session with Rob Burrow on 10th June at the Leeds Rugby Training Ground. Participants will also get a Run with the Rhinos top for the race, fundraising support and incentives and a post-race event invite.
