Take steps to move more with Active 10

Leeds Rhinos Foundation is working with One You Leeds to highlight benefits of just 10 continuous minutes of brisk walking every day.

Incorporating a 10 minute brisk walk into daily life is a small change that can have a big impact on your health – particularly if you struggle to find time for other forms of exercise.

Laura Buckle, health improvement officer for Leeds Rhinos Foundation said: “Walking can make people feel better in so many ways, including boosting energy levels, clearing heads and lifting moods. It also raises people’s heart raises and can go some way towards lowering their risk of serious illnesses, such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes so I would certainly recommend people targeting themselves to walk 10 minutes every day.

A free app can help you make sure you get your brisk 10 minutes completed everyday. Active 10 was launched in 2017 and has now been downloaded by more than 500,000 people.

Laura said: “The Active 10 app is a really useful tool for people looking to improve their health and wellbeing. People who attend our Rhinos Active Social group for over 55s and our Try Club men’s health programme have downloaded the app and said it has helped them keep track of their exercise and stay motivated."

The Active 10 app can show you the number of 10 minute of brisk walks you do every day (called Active 10s) and suggest ways of doing more.

The app is available for free. Head to OneYouLeeds.co.uk to download it.
