New Young Dads Programme at Headingley Carnegie Stadium

Are you working with any soon to be fathers or new fathers who are aged 19 or under?

The Leeds Rugby Foundation education programme 'Tryzone' and Leeds City Council’s Teenage Pregnancy and Parenthood Team are working in partnership to deliver an innovative ‘Young Dads’ programme at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.  Whilst most people are aware of programmes out there to support young mums, there is very little targeted specifically at young dads.

Nigel Wood, Leeds Rugby Foundation TryZone Programme Manager, is looking forward to the difference the programme will make to young men in Leeds “The TryZone ‘Young Dads’ Programme is an opportunity to learn and gain critical life-skills in a completely unique and inspiring environment. The staff, guest speakers and role models on the project encourage ambition and promote the idea of taking responsibility”.  The twilight programme will run for 10 weeks on Wednesdays 3:30pm – 5:30pm starting in mid-May, covering relationships, the fathering role, child development, rights and responsibilities and much more.

The below flyer gives you a flavour of the programme along with some fabulous feedback from young men who have already benefitted from taking part in the pilot programme.  As the programme runs, the hope is young men will return to TryZone to provide peer support by sharing their experiences with those new to the world of becoming a dad.
