Hundreds of local school children enjoyed a ‘Day to Remember’ at Headingley Carnegie Stadium thanks to the charity partnership between Caddick Construction and Leeds Rhinos Foundation.
The Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s ‘Day to Remember’ experience, which is sponsored by Caddick Construction, offers children from the charity’s Ambassador School programme a day filled with activities as well as a chance for every child and parent to attend a Rhinos home game at discounted prices, where they are given a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in the match day entertainment.
At half time during the massive Super League clash between Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors over 270 children from six Leeds Primary Schools took part in a pitch parade and as a unique souvenir from the day Caddick Construction provided all the school children a ‘Day to Remember’ foam finger to wave to the crowd of over 18,000 fans. The parade followed a day of activity that had been delivered in the schools by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation staff, which included an assembly, multi-skills and tag rugby coaching sessions and appearances from Ronnie the Rhino and the Challenge Cup.
Speaking about the successful Day to Remember pitch parade Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Ambassador School Manager, Lisa McCann, said: "It was really pleasing to see so many children from our Ambassador Schools playing a role in the match day experience at one of the biggest games of the season. We have designed a ‘Day to Remember’ package which involves our staff delivering activities and engaging with children in their own school, which is then is then followed up with a unique and memorable day at Headingley Carnegie where the children are able to complete their experience by walking on the same pitch as their Rhinos heroes.
“Over 1400 children have now experienced a ‘Day to Remember’ with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and this has been made possible because of the generous support from Caddick Construction throughout the year and I would like to thank them for their sponsorship and for donating the foam fingers which were a big hit and a great memento for the children from their experience at Headingley Carnegie.”
Andrew Murray, managing director of Caddick Construction, said: “The Leeds Foundation plays a vital role in the local community engaging and encouraging young people to get involved with sport.
“We are the proud sponsor of the Ambassador School Day to Remember events, which give pupils the opportunity to attend a Leeds Rhinos game, to hear the roar of Headingley Carnegie Stadium, and also take part in a field parade.
“To add to this experience, we had Leeds Rhinos foam fingers made for all the children – a fun accessory which could be used throughout the game, during the parade and at future games to ensure they felt part of the Leeds Rhinos family.”
