Runners take on Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon challenge in support of Foundation

On Sunday 10th May, a group of 25 dedicated runners came together to take on the incredible challenge of the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon or Leeds Half in support of Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

For some participants, this marked their very first marathon-distance event, while others returned to the start line at AMT Headingley Stadium.

Together, the group has raised an outstanding total of over £7,000, helping the Foundation continue its life-changing work across health, education, rugby league development, disability and inclusion across the city.

Reflecting on his first half marathon experience, PDRL player Chris Young said “Going into it I was very nervous as I’ve never even attended one even as a spectator, so I didn’t know what to expect.

“On the start line I was shaking I was so nervous, but down the first road with all the cheers and messages for people was just incredible and got me through the first miles.

“When you get to around the Oak and up Otley Road the atmosphere was so good I took my earphones out just to listen to everyone.

“I got to do the last 3 miles with a teammate which made it even better and made me realise why they’re addictive and I’m definitely signing up for next year.”

His teammate, Dan Bell, added: “Unbelievable event. The crowds and support at the Half Marathon were amazing.

“Running it for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation made it even more special and sharing the day with my PDRL teammates and friends from the Fordy Runs and Foundation Run Club, whether running or supporting, is something I won’t forget”.
