At the recent Man of Steel awards Leeds Rhinos Foundation won the Foundation of the Year award after an incredible 12 months. Want to know more about our charity? Take a look at some the projects we deliver.
Working under the five pillars of sport, education, health, heritage and arts, Leeds Rhinos Foundation aim to use the power of sport to make a positive impact on the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the Leeds community.
Below is an example of some of the highlights of Leeds Rhinos Foundation's work:
- Annually Work with over 30,000 people in the local community
- Tackle the issue of re-offending through the second chance ‘Onside’ project with offenders at three prisons
- Help adults to make positive health changes with the Try Club Men’s Health Programme
- Support cancer patients through the free Active Beyond Cancer rehabilitation course, run in partnership with Yorkshire Cancer Research
- Work with rugby clubs across the city to promote the development of the game via the successful Ambassador Scheme
- Encourage more people to play the game and support the development of players and coaches through the Rugby League Development Plan
- Support schools across the city by delivering over 5000 hours of coaching to over 18,000 children
- Provide over 1,000 children from Community Clubs and Schools to enjoy an unforgettable experience by taking part in Leeds Rhinos game day activity on the pitch
- Help to support victims of domestic violence and human trafficking through the ESOL and education projects
- Offer Work Club to help job seekers find employment through CV building , registering for jobs and interview preparation
- Provide early intervention schemes such Inspiring Champions in schools to help give all children an equal chance to succeed
- Make sport accessible for all through work with Aspire CBS
- Support people living with Dementia through our In Touch Club
- Engage over 55s in a weekly Active Social group, in partnership with Morrison's Foundation, to promote exercise in a social environment
- Helped the development of the women's game through coaching delivery in schools and clubs and the successful launch of the Leeds Rhinos Women's team
- Launched a Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) side who competed in the UK's first PDRL game
- Ran two Ambassador Festivals across two sites, with over 600 junior players from 22 community clubs taking part
- Provide a Rhinos Reading project, which is designed to support primary school children's literacy and introduce them to rugby league by utilising the appeal of Leeds Rhinos' mascot Ronnie the Rhino
- Offer Coach Education courses for community clubs and schools to support the development of the game at grassroots level
- Promote the heritage of the game by showcasing the rich history and heritage of RL in Leeds schools, community clubs, professional clubs, individuals and key events
- Provide summer camps for children in some of the city's most deprived areas
