Yorkshire Cancer Research urges Rhinos fans to get checked out

‘If in doubt, check it out’ will be the message from Yorkshire Cancer Research when they take over Emerald Headingley Stadium at this Friday’s historic match between Leeds Rhinos and Toronto Wolfpack (28 September 2018).

The match has been dedicated to Yorkshire Cancer Research as part of an ongoing partnership between the charity, Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

Rhinos fans will have the chance to chat to GPs about health worries at a special ‘Check It Out’ clinic and learn about cancer signs and symptoms through the charity’s ‘RhiNO to Cancer’ campaign.

Yorkshire Cancer Research teamed up with Leeds Rhinos earlier this year to improve the early diagnosis of cancer by raising awareness at matches.

The charity also works with Leeds Rhinos Foundation to provide a free cancer rehabilitation course called ‘Active Beyond Cancer’ for patients in the Leeds area. Since 2017, the health and exercise programme has helped nearly 100 people recover and live well after cancer.

Joe Taylor, Partnerships Manager at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said: “We urge all Rhinos fans to come and have an informal chat with the GPs at our ‘Check it out’ clinic. If cancer is diagnosed early, it’s often easier to treat successfully. That’s why it’s so important that people share any worries with their doctor. There’s a good chance it won’t be anything serious, but if it is cancer and it’s found at an early stage there’s a much greater chance of recovery.”

The charity will also be holding a collection on the gate and around the ground, handing out ‘If in doubt, check it out’ try cards and giving away t-shirts signed by Rhinos players.
