TryZone’s new project takes off

TryZone’s Active Girls Groups (T.A.G.G) are up and running and already making a difference.

At the TryZone we are currently working with Year 6 girls from Shire Oak and Spring Bank Primary Schools in Headingley as well as Year 7 girls from Wetherby High School and Boston Spa High.
The girls are being introduced to the benefits of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. The project creates positive social interactions with good role models, improves self-esteem, confidence and raises general awareness around cyber and personal safety. So far the activities have focussed on getting to know each other, identity and individual skills, rugby skills and healthy lifestyles.

Kathryn Bizley, Project Tutor, said “The girls have joined in enthusiastically and mixed well with each other. I have been really impressed with their fantastic attitudes and honesty during discussions.”

Over the next eight weeks the girls will be doing street dance, yoga, boxing, stadium tours, bush craft, and a tour of the Leeds Grand Theatre. Sessions will also include discussions about body image in sport and the media, safety awareness, diversity and celebrating difference as well as craft activities and team work exercises.
