Champion Schools Festivals Continue

Above Year 8 Girls taking part in he local Champion Schools Festival followed by Year 11 boys from Mount St Mary's School qualify for the next round.

The Champion Schools local stage festivals are in full swing with the Year 11 boys completed at Hunslet Warriors ARLFC last week seeing Mount St Mary’s triumph in the final. The Year 8 girl’s local round also took place at David Young Community Academy which saw Temple Moor unbeaten throughout the festival.

The year 11 boys played in a round robin format and after a number of competitive games this resulted in Lawnswood, Cockburn, Priesthorpe and Mount St Mary’s, reaching the semi-finals and therefore qualifying to the next round of the Champion Schools competition.
 
Russell Parker commented ‘It was a great competition seeing four schools qualify through to the regional stage who all showed great potential. There were a number of closely contested games played with a great intensity and attitude. It will be great to see how all the teams’ progress in the high schools programme throughout the year.’

The qualifiers to the next stage are in 1st place Temple Moor who were unbeaten throughout the festival and in 2nd place Morley Academy.
 
With a big thank you to DYCA for hosting the Year 8 girl’s festival. Lois Forsell commented: ‘It was great for the girls to get some playing time and rugby experience under their belts and you could really see the progress they made throughout. It was a great evening and I hope the girls enjoyed the festival and are raring to get stuck in again at upcoming fixtures’.
