Play Rugby League at your local community club!

We’re counting down to the long-awaited return of community rugby league from Monday 29 March and clubs all across our city are looking for players new and old to join their teams!

Under the RFL’s ‘return to play’ roadmap, clubs can resume training from Monday 29th March in a COVID-secure environment, almost 12 months after all rugby league activity was stopped by the coronavirus pandemic.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation will be at the forefront of supporting local community clubs with their return to play through the charity’s Rugby League Development Plan with Mears Group, which aims to create more playing opportunities, raise standards and increase participation in the sport.

Looking forward to the return of community rugby league, Ian Hardman, Rugby League Development Coordinator, said: “It’s great news that the community game has got the go ahead to return from the 29th March and here at Leeds Rhinos Foundation we’re really looking forward to supporting our ambassador clubs get back up and running.

“Rugby League is a fantastic sport and it can provide young people with a whole host of benefits such as boosting self-esteem, developing teamwork skills, relieving stress and providing physical health, which are all great reasons to get involved in the game.

Sam Horner, Community Clubs Development Officer, added: “It was a huge boost for the community game to finally receive the roadmap for its return to play. It’s a joint effort by everyone now to rally the players back to the clubs and get our community game going again in the safest way possible.”

“We just want to say that we are here to support you, no matter what position you’re in following the pandemic, and we can’t wait to see lots of new players getting involved with rugby league at their local club.”
