10 new schools have signed up to benefit from being part of the Ambassador Schools programme in time for the 2016 season, as the scheme reaches over 130 schools now working in partnership with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation to help increase participation and support of Rugby League in the city.

As part of the scheme, schools benefit from a number of incentives such as group trips to watch the Leeds Rhinos, special school player visits and opportunities to take part in match day activity on the Headingley Carnegie Stadium pitch organised through a dedicated member of the school staff becoming a Leeds Rhinos Foundation Ambassador.

The scheme also offers the chance for schools to attend Leeds Rhinos games at a discounted rate, attend exclusive Stadium Tours and have the opportunity to have a "Rhinos Takeover Day" experience within their school.

The offer which is provided for both primary and secondary schools has seen Primrose Lane, Robin Hood, Burley Park, St Anthony's, Bramley, Iveson, Beechwood, Pool-in-Wharfedale and Lawns Park Primary Schools along with Corpus Christi Catholic College all sign up to the scheme in time for the 2016 season which began on 4th February at Headingley Carnegie Stadium when the Leeds Rhinos take on Warrington Wolves.

Peter Grealish coordinator at Gledhow Primary School, who recently received their Rhinos Takeover Day in the build up to the fixture and benefited from a special Leeds Rhinos assembly and full day of coaching in dance and rugby, commented on the benefits of being part of the Ambassador Schools Scheme:

“It’s great to have that constant relationship with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and great for us as staff from a continuing professional development point of view to learn from the Rhinos staff for future training and to have that link between us, the Leeds Rhinos community and the schools community is fantastic.”

School Ambassador Coordinator for the Leeds Rhinos Lisa McCann said:

“It’s pleasing to have 130 schools now signed up to the programme all benefitting from a link with their local professional sports organisation in the Leeds Rhinos.

“Leeds Rhinos being successful on the pitch along with being well-regarded role models in the Leeds community provides an obvious appeal for schools who can enjoy a number of benefits from being part of the scheme. We hope to work with more schools using the Rhinos brand to continue to inspire and educate for years to come.”
