A hugely successful Tag Rugby League festival was held at Milford Marlins ARLFC on Wednesday 08th February in conclusion to the four weeks Rugby coaching each primary School in Headingley, Kirkstall and Meanwood area had received.
In total, 8 primary school teams attended which included, St Chad’s; Sacred Heart; Shire Oak; Meanwood; Beecroft; Burley St Mattius; Weetwood and Hawksworth Wood primary school. It was a wonderful effort from all the schools that turned up to the festival.
The event was very competitive with some fantastic free flowing rugby on show from all the teams. After some tense games, St Chad’s primary school were the eventual winners in the admirable and nail biting final with Beecroft primary. Each school received a certificate for taking part and the festival winners, St Chad’s primary school received a signed Leeds Rhinos ball from the 2012 Super League and World Club Champions.
Primary Schools Development Officer, Tony Aubrey commented, “It was a great festival today. Very successful. They are a bunch of really good schools so that helped the event run as smoothly as possible. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and played as a team with a smile on their faces. Some fantastic tries were scored from some wonderful passing moves. On the back of this I hope Milford Marlins ARLFC gain some new players”.
The finale to the six week primary schools programme comes to an end next week with each school receiving the very popular Leeds Rhinos 'Winning Team' assembly with a special guest appearance by 'Ronnie the Rhino'.
