Leeds Carnegie’s first ‘Coach the coaches’ sessions proves to be a massive hit

Sir Ian McGeechan - Coach the Coaches

Leeds Carnegie travelled to Hull Ionians Rugby Club on Monday night to deliver the first of the session within Coach the Coaches programme.

Attended by over 60 coaches on the night the attendees were treated to a full evening of interaction with the Leeds Carnegie coaching staff and also educated in the way international teams such as the British and Irish Lions are coached by using basic techniques and simple drills. Sir Ian McGeechan kicked off the evening speaking about his experiences with the Lions and how to get the best out the players within your teams. Sir Ian then showed some short videos emphasising the need to keep practicing the basic skills at whatever level you are playing at.

Once the presentation was finished Diccon Edwards the Leeds Carnegie First Team Head Coach led on the first of three 15 minute coaching blocks with the U15 and U16 teams from the Hull Ionians club with Adam Blades, community manager taking the second of the 3 blocks. The attendees gave some fantastic feedback highlighting the great commitment from Leeds Carnegie to getting out and about in the community and sharing their experiences and expertise with coaches from various clubs around the county.

We will be announcing further dates and venues with different content at each session in the near future so keep your eye out of future sessions or get in contact with stephen.costello@leedsrugby.com
