Biggest Year 7 Girls Champion Schools Final is a big hit!

Tuesday 4th November was the final Champion Schools Rally of 2014 for girls Rugby League in the city. Last but not least it was the turn of the year 7 pupils from across Leeds.

There were 8 schools in attendance which was the biggest turnout from all the Champion School rallies this year and in years gone by.

The weather was dry with a chill in the air when the following schools arrived at Leeds Rugby Academy on Tuesday 4th November; Corpus Christi Catholic College, Temple Moor School, David young Community Academy, Lawnswood School, Leeds West Academy, Bruntcliffe School, Cockburn school and Woodkirk Academy.

The schools were split into two groups of four where they played each team once within their group. Each group was closely contested with the winners of the group qualifying by a mere two points. Lawnswood School and Woodkirk Academy were the new kids on the block, their schools new participants to the girl’s high school rugby league competitions. They were both excellent and enjoyed the evening both sneaking in wins over their opposition.

The Qualifiers to the regional stage of the competition are David Young Community Academy and Cockburn School. Temple Moor and Woodkirk Academy narrowly missed out coming top of their group trailing the victors by two points. Well done to Cockburn School who won all 3 of their games and David Young Community Academy who won all but one.

Good luck in the next round where they will come up against the champions across the region.
