Spider-y the Leeds based charity will be starting training sessions for Wheelchair Tag Rugby League at Morley Leisure Centre, on Tuesday nights starting 31st Jan 2012 from 7pm – 9pm
Sport’s wheelchairs available and sessions cost £3 per night. In Partnership with Leeds Rugby, the RFL and LCC Sport Development Officers Leeds Rhinos WTRL and will be fielding two teams in the 2012 Wheelchair Tag Rugby Leagues Division 1 & 2, anyone interested please contact, Andy Gardner 07769 938 798 for more details.
SPIDER-Y (Sport Promoting Inclusion for the Disabled and Equal Rights in Yorkshire)
• Spider-y enables those people in the community who can not take part in able bodied sports to take part in wheelchair sports and to enjoy participating in sport locally, nationally and internationally. Spider-y also exists to promote understanding of the difficulties encountered by those who are disabled..
· In order to achieve these objectives, SPIDER-Y will continue to Set up a sports clubs for the disabled and their friends and relatives
· Offer sessions in schools and elsewhere to give the able-bodied experience of taking part in disabled sport
· Offer courses to businesses and other organisations to enable staff to better understand life from a disabled persons aspect.
· SPIDER-Y supports three activities all of which are relevant to our existence:
· 1. We have a wheelchair basketball club (Leeds Spiders WBC) which meets weekly for training on Wednesdays from 8 to 10 pm at Morley Leisure Centre.
· 2. Our second activity involves road show events the aim of which is to introduce those youngsters who are able-bodied to disability sport and awareness.
· 3. We now have succesfully Trialed Wheelchair Tag Rugby and will be starting training very soon for the 2012 season where Leeds Rhinos WTRL will be fielding 2 Teams.
· SPider- y works in close partnership with Leeds City Council’s disability sports development team, LCC Sport Development Officers, west yorkshire sports disabilty team, great britian wheelchair basketball association, The Rugby Football League.
