Tea and talk dates now available for Active Beyond Cancer programme

Tea and Talk referrals for Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Active Beyond Cancer programme in partnership with Yorkshire Cancer Research are now available at three locations in April for men and women in Leeds dealing with the effects of cancer

Leeds Rhinos Foundation were delighted to announce that Leeds Rhinos star Richie Myler has agreed to become the official ambassador for the programme earlier this week, which will see the two charities continue to promote important health messages, offer free health checks and provide advice on the importance of the prevention and early diagnosis of cancer.

Over the past 12 months Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Yorkshire Cancer Research have been working together to offer the free 12-week cancer rehabilitation programme across Leeds with mixed gender and men and women only sessions at Armley, Rothwell and Fearnville leisure centres.

Open to patients at different stages of cancer treatment, Active Beyond Cancer aims to aid in the recovery and improve quality of life for people after cancer diagnosis by offering free health and fitness coaching and advice designed to increase levels of physical activity and improve confidence.

As part of the recruitment for the programme, Leeds Rhinos Foundation Health Improvement staff will be meeting with people looking to take part in the programme on the 4th and 5th of April for Tea and Talk meetings with the programme due to start in May.

Programme leader for Leeds Rhinos Foundation Adam Lunn said:

“Our Tea and Talk events are just an opportunity for people to come and find out a bit more about what the programme entails and to meet our staff who will be delivering on the programme throughout the 12 weeks.

“We will be running separate sessions for men, women and a mixed room as well, so people are welcome to attend any to just to come and get familiar with the programme and ask questions before we move onto client consultations later in April.”

Tea and Talk events are scheduled for the following dates:

  • 04/04/2018, 1 – 2:30pm at Armley Leisure Centre (Women Only)
  • 05/04/2018, 1 – 2:30pm at Fearnville Leisure Centre (Men Only)
