Tag Rugby League festival at Swillington JARLFC

Further to the six week rugby coaching, the Leeds Rugby Foundation organised a Tag Rugby League festival at Swillington JARLFC which took place on Wednesday 11th July 1.00pm – 3. 00pm. In total five Primary Schools attended, which included, Colton A and B, Swillington A and B and St Benedict’s primary school. Each school team consisted of 10 players, roughly 5 girls and 5 boys. It was a brilliant effort from the schools that turned up, given the recent dreadful weather and the fact that it is a very busy time of year for the schools.

The event was very competitive and very close with Swillington A Primary school being the eventual winners. Leeds Rhinos Primary School Development officer Tony Aubrey commented, “This was a very pleasing outcome to the programme. The standard of competition was very high and the kids seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. It was particularly pleasing to get some excellent feedback from the schools teachers. The event also created school club links with Swillington JARLFC to encourage the children to take up Rugby League. I would like to thank all the teachers for getting the kids there in difficult circumstances and making it an unforgettable experience for the children involved. Finally I would like to thank all the volunteers involved at Swillington, particularly Phil Mead who was a great help on the day and whom made the event possible. Hopefully they will recruit some new enthusiastic rugby players.

Each school received a certificate for taking part and the winners, Swillington A primary school received a signed Leeds Rhinos ball.
