The Rhinos 9s competition has seen remarkable growth over the past few years, with the number of participating teams more than doubling since its inception.
This year, the competition has hit a major milestone, with 74 teams entered across three age groups for the first round alone—an incredible jump from the 31 teams that took part in its first year.
Since Girls Rugby League & Schools Competition Coordinator, Ellis Pascall, took over, the numbers have steadily increased year after year:
- 2022 – 31 teams
- 2023 – 34 teams
- 2024 – 53 teams
- 2025 – 74 teams (with 69 fully confirmed)
Ellis Pascall commented on the competition’s expansion, and the impact that this is having on school’s rugby league: “The growth of the Rhinos 9s has been incredible, and I’m so proud of how far we’ve come.
“The increase in numbers and the fantastic engagement from schools has made it much easier to field teams, which is key to providing more opportunities for schools to play our sport.
“Seeing these players get the chance to compete at AMT Headingley Stadium is amazing, and it’s an experience that will inspire them and help grow the game even further in the city of Leeds.”
