NEW LEEDS RUGBY LEAGUE DERBY IN THE CALENDAR?

Chapeltown Cougars, based at the Prince Philip Sports Centre, Scott Hall Road, played their first rugby league match this weekend, regally entertaining North Leeds Leopards in what is set to be a series of encounters between the clubs at various age levels, and heralding a new derby in the city.

The weather was perfect for the respective under 9s sides that marked the historic occasion, in a match played in wonderful spirit and total commitment which unearthed a number of potential stars.

Leopards coach Alex Nunn commented, “We had a fantastic welcome from Chapeltown, who were playing their first full competitive game. Every player on both sides made a full contribution and were a credit to their clubs. After the game the players and officials moved inside their great facility to enjoy a wonderful reception put on by the Cougars’ parents. We are extremely grateful for their hospitality and I am sure that we will be challenging them to another game in the near future.”
