New Dates Announced for Try Club

Try Club has had plenty of men attend with the goal of losing weight

Try Club has new dates and a new venue in October as Leeds Rhinos Foundation encourages men across Leeds to lose weight.

Try Club is one of the many health projects that Leeds Rhinos Foundation run across Leeds to get people participating in regular physical activity. The free 12-week programme focuses on weight management through a series of education and exercise sessions, designed specifically for men.

The course will start at new venue Guiseley Rangers ARLFC on the 9th October and will run each Tuesday evening from 6-7.30pm. There will also be a course run as usual at Emerald Headingley Stadium, starting on the 10th October and running each Wednesday evening at 6-7.30pm.

The programme, commissioned by Leeds City Council, is open to all male residents of Leeds above the age of 18. Each weekly session runs for 90 minutes, informing and educating men who attend the importance of nutrition without the need for dieting. The sessions also include participation in a progressive physical activity session that is suitable for all abilities and medical ailments.

The course is accompanied by additional weekly exercise maintenance sessions for members and a home-based workout routine is also provided to maintain physical activity away from the sessions.

Laura Buckle, Leeds Rhinos Foundation Health Improvement Officer, said: “We’re bringing back Try Club to help more men across Leeds manage their weight.

“Try Club has proved popular since it began and to offer more men the chance to look at their diet and think about what they eat as well as why taking part in regular exercise is important. I think most turn up to Try Club rather than a regular dieting scheme because we are individual in how we split our sessions, which 50 per cent education about nutritional well-being and 50 per cent full body exercise.”

The first week will be an introduction to the programme and will include a comprehensive health check of all members wanting to take part. If you can’t make the first session, there is the opportunity to join the following week.
