Primary Tag Rugby League Festival at Garforth Tigers ARLFC

Unfortunately due to the recent bad weather, Leeds Rugby Foundation had to cancel their year 5 primary schools Tag Rugby League Festival at Garforth Tigers ARLFC on Monday afternoon (25th March). However, Leeds Rugby Foundation are pleased to confirm that a new date for the festival has been set for Wednesday 22nd May, 1-3pm at the Glebelands Playing Fields, Ninelands Lane, Garforth, Leeds, LS25 1NT.

The festival will be the finale to the 6 week programme in which a host of schools in the Garforth area received 4 weeks of coaching and a whole school assembly as part of the Leeds Rugby Foundation's 3 Year Rugby League Development Plan.

In total 11 school teams from the Garforth area have been involved. These are, Garforth Green Lane Academy – Team A and Team B, Whitkirk – Team A and Team B, Ninelands – Team A and Team B, Templenewsam – Team A and Team B, St Benedict’s, Strawberry Fields and Cross Gates Primary schools. Each team consisting of 10 players, 5 girls and 5 boys.

Leeds Rhinos Primary School Development Officer Tony Aubrey commented, “It is disappointing having to cancel the festival however the weather beat us unfortunately. Nevertheless this event will definitely go ahead next half term and hopefully it will be dryer, warmer and the sun may be shining as well. I know the children were really looking forward to this and it will be a great occasion for all the schools involved. It will not only introduce lots of new children to Garforth Tigers ARLFC, but also create stronger school-club links between the schools and rugby league club. I’m thoroughly looking forward to what should be a fantastic event”.
