Breeze Sports Academy – Rugby League Leaders Award

Breeze Sports Academy

Once again Breeze Sports Academy has continued their partnership with Leeds Rugby Foundation trying to re-engage young people with education by delivering a Rugby League Leaders Award.

As part of the 3 Year Rugby League Development plan, Leeds Rugby Foundation are keen to engage as many young people over as varied an age range as possible in Rugby League.

The programme took place over 5 weeks with pupils in Years 10 and 11, teaching them everything from the basics of good coaching practice, to the finer coaching points of some of the more specific skills in the game. The end product would see the individuals pull together as a team to organise, run and deliver a tag rugby festival to approximately 60 primary school pupils.

Leeds Rugby Foundation coaches Danny Edmondson and Adam Lunn lead the programme which saw the students learning in a range of environments, from the classroom where they planned in depth sessions, to the field leading their peers in the training sessions they devised themselves.

Sam Low, Breeze Sports Academy Coordinator said, “Our students present many different challenges but Dan and Adam dealt with every situation with skill and professionalism throughout, the support they also offered at the festival was invaluable”.

The festival was designed to introduce a whole host of young people to the game and the responsibility of that first positive experience fell on the Breeze students. As was fully expected from the Leeds Rugby Foundation the Breeze students did a sterling job and really excelled their selves which was evident seeing the 65 smiling faces at the end of the day. A job well done by all involved
