LRF TV: Primary Rugby League pilot with the RFL and Leeds Rhinos.

You could be coached by Jamie-Jones Buchanan

Leeds Rugby Foundation and Leeds Rhinos recently endorsed the RFL’s Primary Rugby League pilot programme which came to Headingley Carnegie Stadium to give youngsters a great chance to enjoy Rugby League. Watch the video below.

Youngsters from Oulton Raiders, East Leeds and Milford ARLFC all came together to get involved in the new initiatve and were coached, not only by the qualified Leeds Rugby Foundation coaches, but were given an inspirational talk by Leeds Rhinos star and the LRF’s Trustee, Jamie-Jones Buchanan.

The aim of these pilots is to build on the work already done with the Becoming CAYPABLE Level 1 coaching courses to ensure that Primary Rugby League players have the best possible environment and coaching to ensure they enjoy the sport and become the best they can be, whether that’s a professional player, community player or volunteer.

The RFL has intensively researched other sports such as football and rugby union and are also working with Leeds Met University to establish the best approach to motivate young children to foster a lifelong love of sport and physical activity.

The programme also campaigns to “Make A Difference” to Primary School Children, giving them the chance to see what Rugby League is all about from a very young age.

David Gent, RFL Director of Participation said: “We are trialling different forms of the game to ensure the sport is developmentally appropriate and fun for the young children who start playing Rugby League.

“The programme will involve different forms of the game being piloted alongside different environments for Primary Rugby League players.

“This is particularly concerned with improving the match day environment for the players and looking at ways in which parent and coach behaviour can enhance the experience of the children.”

The pilot programmes will last until November and the results will be assessed in detail.
