LRF host Girls Rugby League Festival at Leeds Rhinos Training Facilities

Yesterday evening, Leeds Rugby Foundation hosted a Year 9 & 10 Girl’s Rugby League Festival for four schools from the Leeds and district area at Leeds Rugby Academy.

The round-robin style festival featuring, Cockburn, John Smeaton, Corpus Christi and Bruntcliffe School saw some closely contested games with some fantastic skills on show.

Three of the schools are regular attendees at Leeds Rugby Foundation events, but Thursday saw new comers John Smeaton take the festival by storm, winning all bar one of their games.

John Smeaton Head Coach, Lee Parkin, who recently was awarded with the English Schools Rugby League Teacher of the Year Award commented:
“I thought it was fantastic for all the girls. We massively exceeded expectations after only playing one friendly, but this festival ran by Leeds Rugby Foundation will stand them in fantastic stead for the future.”

Corpus Christi Head Coach, James Endersby whose girl’s teams have been strong earlier on in the year with their Year 7, 8, 9 & 10 girls winning the previous Leeds Rugby Foundation festivals in October commented on the success of the opposition:

“It’s great to see John Smeaton coming through strong and I am really pleased for them and for the game of Rugby League within Schools.”

Leeds Rugby Foundation encourage all girls to join local community teams to improve, have fun and be part of a team.
