Leeds Rugby Foundation Go Pie Mad To Support Another Local Charity

Leeds Rugby Foundation (LRF) may be a charitable trust, but that does not mean they do not give something back to other local organisations and what better way, than through a PIE-ATHLON!

A team of 8 strong LRF runners rose early Sunday morning to hit the deadly hills of Longwood, Huddersfield to take on the first ever Great Yorkshire Pie-athlon all in aid of the Laura Crane Cancer Trust.

Leeds Rhinos legend Keith Senior captained the ‘Less Pies More Tries’ team, whilst the Foundation’s other team ‘More Pies, More Size’ made up the other four runners.

Pies were the talk of the day, with savoury pies greeting runners at the end of the first 2 miles and sweet pies welcoming runners towards the end of the 6km trail run.

But this was no ordinary ‘Pie-athlon’. If anyone has visited the Longwood area of Huddersfield, they will know of the hills that surround the area.

The route took LRF team and the other 200 dedicated runners through a golf course, a mud trail and up many cobbled slopes, but all members completed the gruelling challenge in respectable times.

LRF Rugby League Development Manager Leon Crick commented on the success of the charity run:

“Although Leeds Rugby Foundation are a charity themselves, we recognise the importance of supporting other local organisations. The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust does some fantastic work and we are keen to support it.”
