Last year, Leeds Rhinos Foundation partnered together with Leeds Women’s Aid, an independent charity that supports women and children affected by domestic violence and abuse.
In 2022 the partnership will continue and will see the two charities promote important information about healthy relationships and domestic abuse.
Leeds Women’s Aid support women and children experiencing physical, emotional, sexual and honour-based violence and abuse, as well as forced marriages, trafficking, stalking and harassment.
They offer a range of the very best services for women and families, including emergency refuge accommodation, 24/7 helpline, webchat, drop ins, advocacy, healthy relationships programmes and support for children and young people. Believing that everyone deserves to live safe, happy lives free from abuse, they support families in ways that work best for them.
The partnership has already seen young people on the National Citizens Service (NCS) programme with Leeds Rhinos Foundation collaborate with the charity as part of their social action projects and Changemakers post-graduation work. Participants organised a collection of books for children and young people. Leeds Women’s Aid are looking forward to continuing this productive and meaningful relationship with the incredible Leeds Rhinos community.
This year, Leeds Women’s Aid are also celebrating their 50th anniversary. To mark this amazing milestone, they are fundraising for a new outdoor space for one of their refuges. This space will include a safe playground for children and young people to play in and a dedicated tranquil garden space for women to rest and relax.
