Leeds Rhinos legend backs Quest 14 Challenge

Leeds Rhinos legend and Rhinos Head of Youth Development Barrie McDermott has thrown his weight behind this year’s Leeds Rugby Foundation (LRF) Quest 14 challenge.

2013 saw McDermott who is a keen supporter of LRF, take part in the 13 mile run of last year’s Quest 13 challenge and he’s now backing this year’s team.

A five strong team, led by Keith Senior, will take on 'Quest 14' a grueling 8-day, 1000 mile bike challenge which will see them cycling from Perpignan in the South of France, all the way through to Leeds starting on 22nd June, 2014.

To link into the Tour de France launch, the team will cycle the Leeds – Harrogate route on the final day of the challenge, covering 134 miles and finishing at the world famous Headingley Carnegie Stadium in time to deliver the match ball prior to Leeds Rhinos vs Catalan Dragons Super League Encounter on Sunday 29th June.

McDermott commented on this year’s challenge: “This is a tough challenge. I took part in Quest 13 last year which was a huge success and this year’s challenge is set to be even better.”

“Unfortunately I am deep in training for a number of other events including Run with the Rhinos and the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon so I have passed on the baton to a number of other able bodies from Leeds Rugby and the Leeds Rugby Foundation,” he continued.

“If you have still not seen the launch video for this year’s event make sure you watch it by clicking here and stay tuned to Leeds Rugby Foundation website for details on how you can show your support for my old teammate Senior and his team.”

McDermott made 283 appearances for the Rhinos, winning the Grand Final ring in 2004 and the Challenge Cup in 1999.
