Leeds City College Benefiting the Rugby League Pathway

Over 25 students have been part of Leeds City College rugby development programme this year. The training has been based at the Leeds Rugby Academy Training Facilities at Kirkstall and the students have benefited from the brand new state of the art gym and the Leeds Rugby Foundations 3G pitch based on-site at the training ground.

The students have embraced the programme that is led by the Leeds Rhinos academy's coaching staff, this is evident with the success on the playing field this year by winning the Carnegie Yorkshire College Plate Final after beating York College 44-22.

Another huge achievement is a number of players have been scouted playing for the college team. Luke Teasdale, Brad Cox, Douglas Foster, Jordan Anderson, Jordan River and Joe McGeahaen have now moved on to either sign a professional contract or on a trial at a professional club.

• Luke Teasdale has signed a contract with Leeds Rhinos and Brad Cox and Douglas Foster are on trial.

• Jordan Anderson has signed a contract with Castleford Tigers and Jordan Rivers is on trial.

• Joe McGeahaen is on trial with Featherstone Rovers.

Leeds City College Coach Jonny Wainhouse commented “To see a number of players have an opportunity to progress to the next level is extremely humbling for the college, the Leeds Rugby Foundation and for Leeds Rhinos. A pathway has been created and this is a clear indicator it works. ”
