Over 40 community coaches from the community Rugby League game, last night, attended Jason Davidson’s Conditioning Workshop as part of the on-going Coach Education program headed by Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Brian McDermott.
Leeds Rhinos’ Head of Athletic Performance, Jason Davidson started by giving an overview of the night ahead and then introduced Chris Black, Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Rhinos.
Chris spoke about the technical enhancements of the game via the use of GPS and the information that can improve performance week on week, along with individual performances.
Jason then emphasised that GPS is not available to all and demonstrated to the group how variations of sessions at different times of the season can condition community players to their full potential.
Practical observatory included Jason and Chris conditioning Farnley Falcons Under 16’s side including backs specific and forwards specific sessions. Small sided games were high on the agenda along with keeping the session and players constantly busy throughout.
Jason then took the players into the gym and combat area to work on intensive training techniques before a Q and A rounded off the very informative evening with the feedback well received by all.
Drighlington ARLFC coach Alex Green commented: “Tonight’s event has taught me different methods that can be tailored to any age group. It was very informative.”
Leeds Rhinos’ Jason Davidson, commented: “We have much more to come including, nutrition, conditioning of younger players and strength and conditioning.
Leeds Rugby Foundation Community Development Officer, Sam Horner said: “The workshop formed part of a wide range of coach education to be delivered in 2014 and can only be for the betterment of Rugby League and for players and coaches’ development.
“I would like to thank Jason and Chris for taking time out of their busy schedules as well as Simon Brier, Head Coach of Farnley Falcons who brought his side along to the evening. This clearly emphasises the partnership between the professional and amateur game.”
