On Tuesday 26th March, we will be hosting a special Inclusive Sports Day at Leeds Beckett University to celebrate winning the 2023 Everybody Moves Club of the Year award.
Throughout 2023, Paralympics GB crowned their Every Body Moves’ Club of the Month, to shine light on some of the best inclusive opportunities to get active across the UK.
The Leeds Rhinos Foundation were honoured to receive the award in February of 2023, for our dedication to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to play Rugby League and engage in physical activity, no matter their ability or impairment.
Each and every one of the clubs who were recognised for their efforts, provide amazing inclusive and adaptive sessions that break down barriers to participation, and enable even more of the disabled community to enjoy the range of positive lifestyle benefits that sport and physical activity can bring.
After thousands of public votes, we were delighted to reveal that our Foundation had won the Club of the Year award, followed by the Trailblazers Powerchair Football Club in second place and Make Change and Brighton Table Tennis Club in joint third.
To celebrate this prestigious award, we are partnering up with Paralympics GB to host our very own inclusive sports day, with special guests from Team GB and Team Rhinos on the day! Players from our Physical Disability RL, Learning Disability SL and Wheelchair teams, along with participants from ASPIRE and SILCs who work with the charity will be in attendance to join in the activities and try a range of activities such as Tag Rugby, Wheelchair Rugby League, Boccia and Sled Hockey.
Following our Inclusion Sports Day, we are hosting refreshments at AMT Headingley Stadium to continue the celebration of the Foundations achievement, and the members of the communities we work in.
CEO of the Foundation, Bob Bowman, commented on the event: “As a Foundation, whose aim is to ‘Change Lives Through the Power of Sport’, the Club of the Year Award was the perfect accolade to recognise the hard work of our staff members, volunteers and those involved in making our Inclusion teams and programmes a reality.
“This is their celebration as much as it is ours, and we cannot wait to welcome members from those communities to come and join us at what is expected to be a very exciting day.
