Final Girl’s Primary School Festival a great standard

The sun shone on the final Girl’s Primary School Festival at Leeds Academy earlier this week.

Eight teams made up of six schools arrived eagerly and full of energy. After a group warm up and a quick introduction, the Tag Rugby Festival kicked off.

There were without doubt some great games, with everyone showing enthusiasm and high-class rugby skills throughout. The festival took place over two pitches, with the winners of both pitches playing for first place, while the other pitch held the 3rd and 4th play-off game.

Adel Primary was one of the outstanding schools on the day and won all three of their group games, but unfortunately had to get back to school early for play rehearsals.

While in the other pool, the winner was contested between Middleton and St Bartholomews. This incredibly close game went to count-back on the number of tries scored and Middleton narrowly went through.

This left Pudsey Lowtown and Middleton Primary in the final and St Bartholomews and Bramley St Peters in the 3rd and 4th play off.

After 10 minutes there was nothing between both teams and the game ended in a draw. The final standings meant Middleton and Pudsey Lowtown shared first place and Bramley St Peters and Raynville shared second place.

The day was a great success and feedback from schools was positive with many looking forward to the next festival.

Clayton Stott, Women’s and Girl’s Rugby Development Officer commented:

“It was a great day. The girls expressed themselves and their schools should be very proud. It seemed pretty fitting that the final games finished with draws, as there was so much talent and a mass of close games throughout the festival.”
