CORPUS CHRISTI GIRLS ARE PRIDE OF YORKSHIRE

Corpus Christi celebrate their Yorkshire Cup win

Year 9 girls from Corpus Christi Catholic College, Leeds are the newly crowned Yorkshire Cup champions.

The girls were rewarded for their hard work with a cup final appearance at the Big Fellas Stadium, the home of Featherstone Rovers where they defeated Outwood Grange Academy to lift the trophy.

The journey started as they qualified from the Leeds Rally after some great performances before they went on to play at Huddersfield St Joes in the regional rounds.

Corpus progressed to defeat Sirius Academy, Settle College and then Ossett Academy which confirmed their semi-final place with Royds School who they swept aside 18-6.

Outwood Grange Academy were the only girls that stood in their way. The game, played at the Big Fellas Stadium was contested at a fantastically high standard and Corpus were not to be denied as they lifted the Yorkshire Cup after a 48-24 victory.

Nyasha Maponga picked up the Player of the Match award and captain Shauna Calvert deservedly lifted the trophy.

Leeds Rugby Foundation Community Development Officer Clayton Stott commented:

“The girls did themselves proud. There were some excellent skills on show throughout the cup competition. The girls’ performances and attitude was great to see and it certainly bodes well for the future of the girls’ game.”

With another year of rugby experience behind them the girls are sure to be a force to be reckoned with next season as they look to defend their crown as Year 10 students.
