Birstall Victoria engages to create "pitch of dreams"

All six Birstall Victoria Junior teams contributed to a very successful "engage with your club" Action Weekend as the club’s Junior pitch was transformed by the erection of a permanent safety barrier.

Club Chairman, Paul Frain, was delighted with the results and the efforts of the 70 club volunteers, “Everyone mucked in to complete a big task, 80 holes were dug, and 80 concrete posts placed, levelled and secured. Scaffolding tubes were then inserted and finally painted. The safety rails will improve the match-day experience for players and spectators and are a source of pride for all the many people who helped.”

Leeds Rugby Foundation supported the event with an appearance and help from our very own Ronnie the Rhino.  Birstall Victoria became a member of the Foundation’s club ambassador scheme earlier this year, which has already proved to be a great link.  So far the club have been involved in half time teams, the outward bound scheme, ambassador’s festival and now a visit from Ronnie the Rhino.

As well as the great turn-out from club members and Ronnie, local MP Mike Wood helped out which showed how important the development of sporting resources are in the local area.

After these exploits, there were plenty of tired bodies in the Birstall area. However, the legacy of this weekend – the Birstall Victoria field of dreams – has ensured that this Summer has been worth it.
