A Week In The Life Of……… Adam Blades – Leeds Carnegie Community Manager

Leeds Carnegie Community Manager

Monday

With only 3 weeks to go until the next Leeds Carnegie Camp I find myself doing some last bits of promotion to ensure that people are aware of the camp going ahead and aim to increase numbers on the camps.

Today I spent my time travelling to primary schools round Otley and Ilkley hand delivering camp brochures to the schools to hand out to children to take home to their parents. There are still places left on the camp, to find out more details about the Otley rugby camp click here: https://bookings.rugbycamps.co.uk/index.php?action=view_camp&campid=1526

Tuesday

A full day at Ashfield Primary School in Otley. A full day of activity is planned for the school where I will be working with year 1 all the way up to year 6. The reason for my visit to the school was to help promote the schools healthy school week in which the pupils are treated to a variety of sports to hopefully enthuse them and encourage them to live a more active, healthier lifestyle. The children at the school were great and a pleasure to coach, with each pupil in the school taking part in 1 hour physical activity in the form of rugby during the day.

Wednesday

One of the most important days in the week!!! A final preparation session for Oatlands School in Harrogate before they represent Leeds Carnegie at the Aviva Premiership final at Twickenham this coming Saturday. I travelled to the school along with Craig Hampson and Terry the Terrier to help the school prepare for the final, taking the 10 players through their paces and preparing them to play in front of 83,000 people on Saturday before the main final between Leicester Tigers and Harlequins, read more about my visit by clicking on this link: http://www.leedscarnegie.com/news/19359.php

Thursday

With Leeds Carnegie running quite a comprehensive rugby programme this week we launched a unique camp which is a joint venture between Leeds Carnegie and Yorkshire Cricket. The full week camp based at Queen Elizabeth Grammar school in Wakefield who are hosting the camp which will see the two professional clubs combine to run the unique camp. There has already been strong interest on the camp which for this year is being held outside the state school holidays with the reason being that it was the only time the two clubs could combine to run the camp, but if it goes as well as planned then it will form part of the Leeds Rugby Foundation camp programme next year. Promotions for this camp are on-going but have a peek at what’s in store for the attendees here: https://bookings.rugbycamps.co.uk/index.php?action=view_camp&campid=1615

Friday

More of an admin day today, planning player appearances at the camps for the June half term and the summer camp programme. Part of my role also sees me oversee the work experience and work placement programme for the Leeds Rugby Foundation which is quite time consuming with the number of requests that we receive from school pupils, students and just general enquiries from people wanting to volunteer. In the post I also receive my ticket for the Premiership final along with the tickets for Oatlands School which I’m sure the school will have great delight in receiving.
