2012 John Smeaton Sixes Teacher Touch Tournament

Finalists - John Smeaton (blue and Red) and Brigshaw (Green/Yellow).

On Friday 13th July 2012, John Smeaton sixes teacher touch tournament was held. Last year the event was a great success and this year’s proved no different.

All the matches were played in great spirit and only 1 point separated the top 4 teams after a great round of group matches.  In the 3rd and 4th place play off Wetherby showed some great skills to overcome a determined Buttershaw outfit who pushed them all the way.

The final involved the hosts John Smeaton and Brigshaw high School.  An early try from Lee Parkin put John Smeaton into a lead that they held on to until the end and ran out deserved winners.  It was a great match and the teachers, many of whom are new to the game showed some fantastic skills.

A big thank you needs to go to Lee Parkin of John Smeaton High School who hosted the event and spent a lot of time organising it over the past few months.  They also need a big pat on the back as they went from getting the wooden spoon in 2011 to winners in 2012 !

Another event is being planned for September where we hope to get even more schools involved.  If you would like more information on how to get on board, please contact Leon.Crick@leedsrugbyfoundation.org
