Leeds Rhinos star Josh Walters joined students from the Big Lottery Funded TryZone centre for a special two day film making and animation workshop with staff from Junior Jam last week, as part of the Leeds Rhinos Education Centre’s summer programme of activities.
The two day workshop was the second activity of the summer ran by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Education centre, following on from a ‘Rhinos Ready Steady Cook’ challenge, as part of a school holiday programme offered to children who have taken part in a TryZone course during the school term.
Josh Walter’s joined the group for the first session, creating short animation videos using iStopMotion and LEGO figurines before sharing each other’s videos with the group, Walters commented:
“It’s been great coming along to sit on the session today with the group making some videos. The kids seemed to really enjoy using the iPads and being creative so it was a pleasure to come down and take part in the session.”
Day two saw the group move onto making a movie trailer, working through different areas of the filmmaking process including storyboarding, filming and editing and making use of the Headingley Stadium grounds to act out some of the scenes.
Clayton Stott, Tutor at TryZone who helped out with the workshop commented:
“We’d like to thank Luke from Junior Jam for providing a fantastic workshop for the children. The group have really enjoyed working through the animation and film making exercises and received a real insight into how to storyboard ideas and turn them into something creative.”
TryZone will be moving onto their next activity this week with a trip to York for an Archaeological Dig and visit to Jorvik Viking Centre before taking part in a Combat activity at Battlefield Leeds in an exciting programme of summer over the school holidays.
