Transforming Dementia Care: A glimpse into our Open Day with The Rainbow Care Group

Last week, the Foundation held an Open Day in partnership with dementia care specialists, The Rainbow Care Group, to relaunch a joint initiative with the aim of changing the way dementia care is delivered.

The open event was a huge success with an array of people joining us to find out more about the service on offer, including prospective attendees, health care professionals, carers and advocates of the group.

We were honoured to be joined by former footballer, John Stiles, whose father, Nobby Stiles, passed away in 2020 following his diagnosis of advanced dementia. John explained how groups like this one are the way forward for those living with the condition, and wishes he had been aware of these services at the time of his father’s diagnosis.

Also joining us at the event were lifelong Rhinos fans, Pat and Neville. The couple met behind the sticks here at AMT Headingley and have attended every game together since. The open day gave them the opportunity to see parts of the stadium they have never seen, allowing them to reminisce on their time spent supporting the Rhinos.
