Transform your health and fitness with our virtual Try Club sessions!

Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s flagship men’s health course ‘Try Club’ is returning in January 2021, with virtual sessions and support to help men get back into shape and improve their fitness from the safety of their homes.

Try Club is funded and supported by Leeds Public Health and there will be two sessions running each week of the free 10-week course take place – with participants able to join the weekly Monday or Wednesday evening classes. The Monday classes will run from 18th January – 5th April and the Wednesday classes from 20th January – 7th April, both taking place between 6pm – 7.30pm.

The classes will take place via Zoom, providing a safe and convenient way to access the popular men’s weight management programme during the current lockdown period.

With a focus on realistic goal setting, the week by week approach to weight management will help participants to achieve maintainable lifestyle changes without the need for any gimmicks, diets or painful gym sessions.

Each online session includes an interactive presentation focusing on a specific aspect of nutrition or behaviour change, such as reducing sugar intake, exploring food groups and the importance of portion sizes. This will be followed by a physical activity session, giving participants the chance to get moving and see improvements in their fitness levels.

According to new research released by Sport England, over 65% of people believe that regular exercise is having a positive effect on their mental health during the pandemic, making a healthy and active lifestyle more important than ever before.

Health Improvement Officer Amy Livingstone said: “We started the virtual sessions last year and the response was excellent and we are still able to offer support and the same advice as we were before.  At this time of year people are often looking for ways to kick start a new health regime and Try Club is an accessible one that is based on realistic goals and building healthy habits into our everyday life.  Whilst many of us are stuck indoors currently it is still important to make sure we make healthy choices and incorporate physical activity into our routines.

“The sessions will be fun, interactive, and still maintain that great social aspect that has been enjoyed by many at Try Club in the past.

“There is no need to worry about space or equipment as all the activities will be accessible and adapted to suit your needs, so come join us online and start making your healthy changes!”

Leeds Rhinos Foundation has delivered Try Club sessions in the community since 2016 and the programme has helped more than 200 men to not only transform their health, but also improve their confidence and ability to stay motivated.

The virtual Try Club sessions are open to all men who are aged over 18 and have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or above.
