The Leeds Rugby Foundation School Ambassadors Scheme

The first practical session for teachers involved in the School Ambassador Scheme has been held by the Leeds Rugby Foundation.

It had been highlighted that school rugby teams in the city needed support with the introduction of structures and plays to beat their opposition. Leeds Rhinos Academy Coach Jonny Wainhouse led a coaching seminar and introduced simple but effective stock plays that the teachers could transfer back into their school teams.

The seminar consisted of classroom work with the use of diagrams, match video footage and also a practical session that involved the teachers learning the new systems.

Natalie Sharpe from South Leeds Academy commented, “The evening was a great success. There are a number of things I plan to implant into my school team especially the importance of communicating with each other”

The School Ambassador Scheme was set up to engage and link Leeds schools to Leeds Rugby and together to enhance and promote the game of Rugby League across the city.

For schools to be part of the School Ambassadors Scheme they are encouraged to
• Enter Rugby League Competitions and Events
• Be the point of contact between the school and Leeds Rhinos
• Attend ambassador meetings and distribute messages throughout school
• Continue to promote and push the game and the family ethos of Rugby League within schools.

Those schools that are part of the ambassador scheme will take priority for coaching, assemblies, work experience, signed merchandise for fundraising events, ticket promotion and much more.
