The Rhinos community team headed up to Cumbria to work with amateur clubs and schools.
Support in the county has always been high and the community team offered their services to the local rugby league community ahead of the Rhinos game against Whitehaven on Sunday 30th January.
Community officers Sam Horner, Jonny Wainhouse, Gareth Cook and women and girls officer Sian Hills were joined by the Rhinos Development Manager Nigel O’Faherty Johnston to deliver a their award winning coaching and assembly programme.
Jericho Primary School, and Bransty Primary school received coaching for all their pupils from reception class through to years 5 and 6 while Valley Primary School, St Beghs Primary and Buckwell Primary were treated to the Rhinos Healthy Eating & Winning Team assembly.
Egremont ARLFC Under 16s received a coaching session while a further 120 local amateur players were coached on the astro turf pitch at Whitehaven’s recreation ground with the Rhinos players followed by a chance for fans to get photos and autographs.
It’s not all hard work though, the community team were invited to Kells ARLFC for lunch on Saturday and they gave a talk their first team prior to their Challenge Cup tie with Bradford Dudley Hill. That night they also attended the Summer Grove Charity Dinner with Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington and first team players. The dinner was to raise funds for Whitehaven RL.
