Pupils at Leeds school Spring Bank Primary have been just one of over 50 schools who have benefited from dance coaching from the Leeds Rhinos Foundation this year led by dance coach Becka Ward.
The charity’s dance offer, which is delivered to both partner and ambassador schools, has seen casual dance coach Becka deliver extra-curricular dance sessions at the school, all with a focus on providing high-quality and tailored coaching to fit with the school’s needs.
Spring Bank Primary, who are based in Headingley, have received their dance delivery as an after-school club for pupils aged 3-6 throughout the school year to see the pupils discover a range of dance styles as they have improved throughout the year.
The club started out learning street dance style but have evolved through the year to explore other styles such as lyrical and contemporary dance through the mentorship of their coach as she explains:
‘’The children have enjoyed a change in style and it's been interesting to see the difference of emotion in their understanding. I have been really surprised at how well they've picked it up. It’s great to see them dancing with feeling and expression.
“Overall I have been delighted with the progress made by all the children that attend, it is wonderful to see their love for dance and confidence grow over the year and how enthusiastic they are now about exploring different styles of dance. We have some very talented dancers in the club which is fantastic,” added Ward.
Due to the improved confidence levels and ability of the group during the year, dancers from the club went on to open and close the school talent competition performing a street dance/hip hop routine and closing with a lyrical/contemporary piece.
Becka Ward added:
“It's been a productive year for the group, well done Spring bank Dance club!’’
