Partnership with HEART to provide new Rhinos Active Social session

Leeds Rhinos Foundation staff Will Smithson and Adam Lunn with Rose Evans at Heart Community Centre

Leeds Rhinos Foundation joined staff from the HEART Community Centre in Headingley on 11th May to launch a new venture which will see the charity offer a new weekly Rhinos Active Social session

The launch event coincided with a 93rd Birthday celebration for the café’s longest serving volunteer Rose Evans, who runs a tea bar in her name each week at the centre.

The Headingley Enterprise and Arts Centre was set up by the Headingley Development Trust in 2011 and has since provided a vibrant and welcoming space for a wide range of people from Leeds to enjoy on-site facilities alongside a varied programme of weekly events and classes.

Rose’s Tea Bar, which has been running for over 30 years, originally from the old community centre on Bennett Road transferred to HEART in 2011 and has been a mainstay of the centre ever since.

The bar now takes pride of place with a weekly event in the main hall at the centre with a guest session led by Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

The weekly session, which will form part of the charity’s Rhinos Active Social delivery will take place every Friday morning from 10am-12pm offering attendees the chance to enjoy tea, coffee and refreshments served by Rose and her staff with the chance to take part in a light exercise session.

Health Improvement Officer Laura Buckle said:

“What better way to announce our new collaboration with HEART than wishing Rose a very happy 93rd birthday and delivering the first of our activity sessions at the centre.

“Rhinos Active Social is ideal for anyone over 55 to come along and take part in some regular physical activity with other like-minded individuals so now we are running the sessions in conjunction with Rose’s Tea Bar we hope to help attract many new members to the centre and for our service.”

Rhinos Active social, which also runs at Emerald Headingley Stadium and the OPAL Welcome In is supported by the Morrison’s Foundation.

Sessions runs weekly at the following locations:

– Tuesday 10am-12:30pm at the Cardigan Centre. 145-149 Cardigan Road, LS6 1LJ
