Over 180 Youngsters Showcase Skills At Indoor Touch Festival

Leeds Rugby Foundation’s Junior Indoor Touch Rugby Festivals kicked off at the weekend with over 180 youngsters showcasing their skills.

The programme, which is in its fifth year, works in partnership with Hunslet Hawks Community Department and Saturday saw nine U7’s and four Mini teams from Community Club’s across Leeds come down to Soccer City.

The mini teams played fun games and they were also treated to a relay race between Harry the Hawk and Ronnie the Rhino.

The Under 7's played in a thrilling festival in which they displayed excellent skills. The children developed massively throughout their games and their coaches commented on how much the children had developed from the starting whistle until the end where they had improved their skills, agility and game awareness.

On Sunday it was the turn of the Under 8's and Under 9's who again demonstrated fantastic skills, speed and agility.

The clubs in attendance over the two days were Birstal Victoria, Hunslet Warriors, Leeds Irish, Methley, Oulton Raiders, Rodley Rockets, Chapel Town Cougars, Drighlington and West Leeds. At the end of the festivals each player received a certificate and got to meet Harry the Hawk and Ronnie the Rhino in their very own presentation.

Leeds Rugby Foundation Community Club Development Officer Sam Horner commented:

“I would like to pay thanks to all the clubs, kids and parents who attended as well as the six referees who came down and developed their own skills and confidence as part of LRF’s rugby league development plan. Stay tuned to www.leedsrugbyfoundation.org for the next sessions.”
