Outdoor Pursuit a huge success

Leeds Rugby Foundation and Irwin Mitchell Solicitors joined forces for the fourth year running, to help organise the hugely successful and inspiring Outdoor Pursuit Scheme for 2014.

This year's trip took place from Monday 25th August until Friday 29th August in Woolley Edge, Wakefield.

The army-themed course was hosted by The Learning Curve Group who provide a range of services connected to the Further Education sector. Close to 40 teenagers from Community Clubs in the Leeds and District area got the unique chance to experience a host of outdoor activities such as kayaking, rock climbing, team building exercises, blindfold games, touch rugby and many more.

The programme is organised by Leeds Rugby Foundation, but it can only happen due to our generous sponsors Irwin Mitchell Solicitors Leeds and Geoff and Gill Caplan.

The Outdoor Pursuit aims to help young people realise their true potential through reflecting on and learning from adventurous experiences in the wild. The scheme offers experiences to young people who may not have been offered these opportunities otherwise, in a bid to raise confidence, self-esteem and give them the chance to try something new. The hope is they will be proud of their achievements and will go on to see clearly what they might truly be capable of achieving in life.

Leeds Rugby Foundation's Sam Horner commented on the success of the project: "This year’s event was another huge success. The kids overcame some tough challenges including the challenge of camping out in the adverse weather conditions.

“The activities the Learning Curve Group put on were second to none and we could see all the youngsters had developed throughout the week.

“A big thanks must go to partners Irwin Mitchell as well as Geoff and Gill Caplan and The Learning Curve Group.”

The youngsters now look ahead to parading the famous Headingley Carnegie pitch tonight as Leeds Rhinos host St Helens.

On top of that, the youngsters will get the opportunity to attend an industry day at partners Irwin Mitchell Solicitors in Leeds during the October half term. As well as learning life skills such as managing your money on that day, it is a great opportunity for the group to meet up with the friends they made on the course.
