More open training sessions for Leeds Rhinos Boys and Girls Development Academy teams

Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Leeds City College are holding another open training session on Tuesday 5th April for potential new recruits interested in joining the Leeds Rhinos Boys and Girls Development Academy teams.

The sessions are open to both boys and girls aged 16-18 who are interested in enrolling with the Development Academy from September 2022, a dual-pathway programme which enables them to train, play and learn full time at Leeds City College, whilst representing Leeds Rhinos at a post-16 level.

It’s the perfect chance for any budding players who are looking to take the next steps towards a career in professional sport, with the open training night providing the first opportunity for students to showcase their talents and enjoy a practical session with Head Coaches Lois Forsell and Harvey Whiteley in our first-class facilities at Leeds Rugby Academy in Kirkstall.

Attendees will also get the chance to train alongside current students and staff and gain a better insight into how the programme runs.

The Leeds Rhinos Development Academy programme provides the ‘student athlete’ with the best possible environment to succeed on and off the pitch, with its world-class rugby league coaching provision in the Rhinos’ performance pathway, alongside a wide variety of qualifications, academic and vocational course options at the College. Consistent with the club’s ethos, the Leeds Rhinos Development Academy prides itself on cultivating a winning mentality and helping players develop their technical, tactical and physiological skill sets to maximise their progress both in the classroom and on the field.

This season, our Leeds Rhinos Girls Development Academy team have managed to unbeaten- winning 8 out of their 9 matches played- whilst the Boys have made it through to the Final of the College RL National Cup at Headingley alongside some impressive performances in the Championship division.

History was also made as Mekhi Bridgeman-Reaney became the first player in our Development Academy to earn a professional contract with Leeds Rhinos, showing the potential for student-athletes to progress through the pathway into the professional game.

Players represent Leeds Rhinos in the College Rugby League competitions, playing competitive matches against other teams representing other Super League and Championship clubs.

The open training sessions are for both the Leeds Rhinos Boys and Girls Development Academy teams, at the following times:

Tuesday 5th April- 3:30pm-5pm at Leeds Rugby Academy, Kirkstall (LS5 3BW)
