Active Beyond Cancer programme returns in September

The Active Beyond Cancer programme, which is run in partnership with Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Yorkshire Cancer Research, will begin again in September for men and women affected by cancer.

The free rehabilitation programme offers health sessions in a range of locations across Leeds and is available to people at any stage of their cancer treatment. The course aims to aid participants by increasing fitness levels, improving their quality of life and building confidence.

Laura Buckle, Health Officer for Leeds Rhinos Foundation, commented: “We’re delighted to be able to offer a new set of dates for our successful Active Beyond Cancer programme, starting this September.

“The programme is open to anyone living with or beyond cancer who is looking to get fitter and healthier and we’re here to support you through a range of physical activity workshops appropriate to your ability, fitness level and needs, as well as offer advice and guidance surrounding nutrition, weight management and achieving long-term goals.”

People interested in joining the course are invited to attend one of the upcoming Tea and Talk events to find out more about what is involved and to speak to staff from Leeds Rhinos Foundation who will be leading the course.

Following consultations, the free 12-week Active Beyond Cancer courses will begin at the start of September and will run at three venues across Leeds. The sessions not only include physical exercise but also offer help and advice to attendees to create a positive wellbeing.

“The tea and talk sessions are the perfect way to come meet our staff, find out more about where the programme takes place and effectively decide if it’s right for you, with no pressure,” said Buckle.

“We can arrange from there to have a one-to-one consultation with you to get to know you a bit more, and discuss how we can tailor the programme to you. If you’re interested, simply register your details and turn up to your nearest venue.”
