McDermott Master Class Continues To Attract Record Number of Coaches

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Brian McDermott held a Master Class Defensive Principles coaching workshop as part of the Leeds Rugby Coaching Association (LRCA) on Monday which saw 48 coaches attend the session.

The defensive workshop delivered by McDermott saw coaches who coach U12 age groups right the way through to open age, come together at East Leeds ARLFC to pick up some professional coaching tips.

East Leeds ARLFC were founded back in 1979 and began as an U11’s team named the Black Dog Pups, after the pub where meetings were held. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength with a number of current Leeds Rhinos stars emerging through their community ranks, none more so than Danny McGuire and Chris Clarkson.

The club now has over 300 registered players and 16 teams at age groups from Mini’s to Open Age.

The workshop at East Leeds, saw defensive principles taught through the use of practical play, coaching through games and group discussion, headed by McDermott.

Sam Horner Community Club Development Officer at Leeds Rugby Foundation commented on the success:

“Brian again has showed his full commitment to the community game by coaching in our Leeds & District clubs.

“His transfer of knowledge and techniques on delivery at all levels is testimony to how he cares about players and coaches within our community game.”

Look out for future workshop as Brian McDermott continues his on the road sessions throughout 2014.
